I have been using Google’s servers for the past day, and they work as advertised to Sony-VGP-BPS2. I do not see any performance difference between them and the OpenDNS server, but they do not redirect as the OpenDNS servers do. Personally I am indifferent to the redirecting features of DNS servers, as long as they perform well and do not hang on name resolution or incorrectly resolve accurately entered domain names. Both the OpenDNS and Google DNS servers are fast, and I recommend you use them if you are experiencing problems with web page loading troubles.

Scientists at MIT have developed a new, more environmentally and friendly way to make lithium batteries. Their approach employs an unusual component: genetically engineered viruses.

These new batteries have the same energy capacity as other lithium batteries of the same size and show potential to develop even more powerful batteries.MIT researcher Angela Belcher, who trained in biology, inorganic chemistry and electrical engineering, has long been interested in using natural biological processes to build better technology.A few years ago, Belcher began working on batteries. She wanted to find a material for electrodes ¡ª the positive and negatives ends of the battery ¡ª that would have the right electrical properties and could be assembled by a biological system o fPresario V3000 battery “We chose iron phosphate because lithium iron phosphate was already shown to be a good battery material,” says Belcher. “And also because biology has done a fantastic job with those elements.”

Iron and phosphate are already used by lots of biological systems. Red blood cells contain iron, and phosphate is an important ingredient in DNA.To make an electrode, Belcher and her team needed to assemble the iron and phosphate molecules into a scaffold. The biological system Belcher chose to do this was a virus.The viruses she used are long and skinny by nature. They attract iron and phosphate molecules along their length, which creates a stiff scaffolding. Belcher’s viruses can also hold tight to carbon nanotubes, whose length is thousands of times smaller than a pencil dot. Attaching a carbon nanotube to one end of the electrode allows electricity to flow in and out of the Dell GK479 battery. Belcher and her team published their work in the journal Science.

One advantage of using viruses is that if Belcher didn’t like any properties of the electrode, she just tweaked the DNA of the virus that was making it. Apple Computer announces it is recalling nearly 2 million notebook computer batteries that could overheat and catch fire. The Apple Computer company is recalling nearly two million laptop batteries like Apple A1008 because of a fire hazard. The move comes just over a week after rival computer-maker Dell announced its own battery recall. Both companies used batteries manufactured by the Sony Corporation.

Apple’s recall of 1.8 million laptop batteries is the second biggest ever for a computer maker, topped only by Dell’s Dell GK479 last week that it would replace more than four million batteries.

Mr. SCOTT WOLFSON (Spokesman, Consumer Product Safety Commission): We have the same issue once again of overheating, of that fire hazard. So once again, consumers need to pay attention to this recall.HORSLEY: Sony spokesman, Rick Clancy, says the battery cells involved in both recalls were made at the same Sony factory in Japan. Note that the battery packs’ problem of overheating to the point of catching on fire seems to occur only when the units are plugged in, which implies that it’s during recharging. Is it possible that Dell and Apple’s aggressive charging techniques exacerbated the contamination problem with the Sony cells?

Keep in mind that these battery packs are based on cells which Sony supplies to many laptop manufactures – Sony is one of the top suppliers of 18650 Sony laptop battery cells, yet the problems are apparently limited to Dell models, and some discontinued Apples. (Lenovo, for example, has said, nope, we’re not seeing it.) So what clues can we glean as to what’s really going on? And what lessons can we draw as design engineers? And I don’t think the lesson to be learned is “The problem is the cell supplier’s,” but rather, “When you try to wring every last bit of performance from your charging circuitry you can stress those cells in ways that have distressing results.”

First, a quick run-down of what a battery pack is and isn’t. It’s not a collection of consumer-market batteries. VGP-BPS9 is based on lithium ion cells that come in an industry-standard package, the 18650, so-called because it’s an approximately 18mm diameter x 65mm-long cylinder. The 18650 cell looks on the inside like a layered jelly-roll consisting of the anode and cathode layers separated by a plastic layer that’s permeable to lithium ions that move between the anode and cathode and generate a current. Says Dr. Robin Tichy of high-end battery pack designer Micro-Power, VGP-BPS9 , Sony VGP-BPS8 Battery , vgp-bps2c. “The separator is a flexible polymer membrane and like any other plastic [as it heats] it has a softening point where it’s more likely to be breached. So a contaminant that’s hard and sharp would be more likely to puncture it at higher temperature.”

Now take a look at Sony’s press release, issued after the Apple recall, which states, “The potential for this [battery pack over-heating and/or catching on fire] to occur can be affected by variations in the system configurations found in different notebook computers.”

Dell advertises its super-fast recharge time for laptops. With a too-aggressive recharge scheme that too-rapidly heats cells cells with a probably small – though admittedly out-of-spec – level of contamination you could have a perfect storm that causes xps m1330 battery battery cells to “rapidly disassemble” as they say in the battery business.

But wait, you say, “Haven’t there been several news reports lately about laptops catching fire while in airplane cargo holds? Step 4: Click on High Performance and click on Change Plan Settings. This is the best setting because you can fully customize how much power you can save while running of your laptop but when you plug into a power outlet your laptop will return to the High Performance Setting.

Step 5: When the High Performance Setting window pops up then click on Change Advance Power Setting and then the Power Option window will popup.

Step 6:Power Option Settings:

Here you have full control over your battery settings.

Click and expand the Hard Disk tab.

Turn off hard disk after: On inspiron E1505 battery: You can set this to the desire time that you want. I have mine set to 30min//Plugged in: Again, you can set this to the desire time that you want. I have mine set to Never because plugged in I am not using my battery.

Step 7: Expand the wireless Adapter Settings:

Power Saving Mode:

On battery: Here you can select Maximum Performance or Maximum Power Saving. If you want your internet to still be fast then select Maximum Performance but if you want to save dell E1505 battery power and don’t mind a slower internet then select Maximum Power Saving. There are two more settings that you can select to have it a Medium Power Saving and Performance.

Plugged in: You will want this to stay on Maximum Performance.

Step 8: Expand the Sleep tab:

Sleep After:

On battery: Select the time which you want it to go into sleep mode while running on the battery. I have mine set to 15min

Plugged in: I have mine set to Never

Step 9: Expand the Processor Power Management tab:

Minimum processor state.

This is how fast your laptop will be when plugged in or running on the battery

On battery: Set it to 15%

Plugged in: set it to 100%

Now expand the Maximum processor state:

On battery: you can choose 20% to save on battery but if you need more speed when running the GD761 battery you will need to increase this number to around 50%

Plugged in: Set this to 100%

Step 10: Expand the Search and Indexing tab:

Power Saving Mode:

On battery: Set it to Power Saver

Plugged in: Set it to High Performance

Step 11: Expand the Display tab:

Turn off display after:

On battery: set it to 5min

Plugged in: you can set it to whatever you want. I have mine set to 20min

These setting will turn off your screen after the given time that you set.

Step 12: When you are done click on Apply at the bottom and then on OK

Step 13: You will be back to the Change Settings for the plan: High Performance window. On this page you can adjust the display brightness:

On battery: slide the bar to the left and it will dim the screen when it is running on the battery.

Plugged in: You can just leave the slide bar all the way to the right.

If you do not change the display brightness then your graphic card software will be monitoring it and you will need to launch the program to make the changes.

Step 14: When you are done click on Save Changes at the bottom and close out all open windows.

Step 15: Un-plug your power adapter and move your mouse toward the time in the right lower side of your screen at the taskbar and place your mouse cursor over the power option icon and it will display the life of the xps m1330 battery. Ignore the warning about your current plan may reduce battery life because you made the advance changes to your battery. With these new changes on my laptop with a 6 cell battery I am now getting 4 1/2 hours of battery life. Before I was only getting 2 hours of battery life. But this is only with my laptop yours may be different.

Step 16 : Also, the more programs that you run while using the battery will drain it faster so try not to run a lot of programs.

Step 17: Xp users

Click start/control panel and navigate to your power options.

Now I don’t have windows xp anymore but if you look around on all the tabs and look for advance options then you will be able to adjust the battery life to what you want it to.

Step 18: If you are not happy with the performance of your laptop with saving more laptop batteries life then go back and increase the processor number.
